ARCHITECTURE, THEATRE, FILM & TELEVISION…
I grew up in Sydney. My upbringing was gypsy like – my father worked in films and our family travelled the world. I attained a Bachelors in Architecture from Sydney University. Then did one year in San Francisco – studying painting, photography and jewellery at CCAC.
Back in Sydney, I started out in independent theatre, doing costume and set design for the Tamarama Rock Surfers. Along with working as a graphic designer in film and television and as an assistant for the artist Tracey Moffatt. Then followed two years working at the ABC as the designer of Playschool.
I was the graphic designer on the film Master and Commander and lived in Mexico during the shoot, where I also did the interior design of the Monkey Bar. Returning to Sydney I worked at the Sydney Theatre Company as a costume designer and at the ABC as the production designer for the Chaser’s War on Everything. Costume design for several television series, many commercials and a movie, The Little Death, followed…
…Interior design, photography & Books
…my first major project was a month long pop-up bar on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House. This was followed by two private cafes for the Macquarie Bank staff in Sydney. A pop-up café in conjunction with National Parks and Wildlife in the village of Hill End in rural Australia. In Los Angeles, a workspace for Australians in Film – Charlies. In Sydney, a series of projects for the Australian Film Television and Radio School: the foyer, the library, the masters space. The interior design of the café at the National Art School. A wedding venue for the historic Terrara House on the South Coast.
My first book published by Hardie Grant was New Rural. My second book – New Coastal, also with Hardie Grant, chronicles coastal design and lifestyles in both Australia and the US.
